Barrueco New CD - 2008/02/17 16:55 “TANGO SENSATIONS” - A NEW CD BY GRAMMY NOMINATED MANUEL BARRUECO, GUITAR AND CUARTETO LATINOAMERICANO
TONARMUSIC proudly announces the release of a new CD TANGO SENSATIONS - Music of Piazzolla and Guastavino (TONAR 80215) for guitar and string quartet, with GRAMMY nominated artists Manuel Barrueco, guitar, and Cuarteto Latinoamericano.

TANGO SENSATIONS contains the premiere recording of Manuel Barrueco’s arrangement of the Five Tango Sensations by Astor Piazzolla. Says Barrueco:

“Five Tango Sensations (1989), just as the titles suggest, describe sensations of being Asleep, of Loving, Anxiety, Despertar (to awaken) and Fear. Originally for bandoneon and string quartet, I relied on Piazzolla’s improvisational performance style to rewrite the bandoneon part idiomatically for the guitar. In that same vein, I elaborated the guitar part for Loving, which consisted mostly of one single note per measure ornamented by a grace note. To achieve a more climatic ending, I gave the leading part of the bandoneon, a very powerful instrument, to the quartet instead of to the guitar in the ending measures of Fear.”

TANGO SENSATIONS also contains Libertango, Milonga del Ángel and La Muerte del Ángel by Piazzolla, arranged by the Argentinean bandoneon player Cécar Olguín, and Guastavino’s original work for guitar and string quartet, Las Presencias no. 6 (“Jeromita Linares”).

Manuel Barrueco’s last release on TONARMUSIC - SOLO PIAZZOLLA (TONAR 70715) received a 2008 GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance.

The new CD will be available for purchase on www.TONARMUSIC.com on February 26.
