There are a number of differences between a flamenco guitar and a classical guitar. Should you buy a flamenco guitar or a classical guitar?

Before you let go of your precious cash for a lifelong companion in the form of an expensive guitar, let's look at the differences.

Wood:

Good classical guitars are usually constructed with rosewood back and sides, with either spruce or cedar tops. Flamenco guitars have back and sides of cypress and the top is usually made from spruce only. Because cypress is much lighter than rosewood, and because their tops are thinner, flamenco guitars are lighter than classicals.

Many great guitars have come from the UK, and some of their luthiers have gained international renown. The UK seems a good breeding ground for up and coming luthiers.

One of the new breed of luthiers from the UK is Earl S Marsh.

In his own words: "Only the best in materials selection for guitar construction is acceptable in order to attain all of the qualities expected of a fine concert guitar."

Jose Ramirez I -- the Maestro guitarmaker PDF Print E-mail

Jose Ramirez I was the founder of the Ramirez workshop. Born in Madrid in 1858, at the age of 12 he began working as an apprentice at the workshop of his Maestro Francisco Gonzalez located on the Carrera de San Jeranimo street of Madrid.

In 1890, he finally established himself at Concepcion Jeranimo nș 2, where his descendants carried on the business until 1995. The store has since been relocated to La Paz nÂș 8, very near the old shop.
