Written by nukelele
Since 1994,  the violin and guitar music of the American ensemble Duo46 has been heard in England, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, New Zealand, Brazil and as far away as Singapore.  Duo46, guitarist Matt Gould and violinist Beth Ilana Schneider,  has commissioned dozens of new works, and expanded their venues from recital halls to performances in cinematheques around the globe.

Their latest recording on Summit Records, Untaming the Fury, features American commissions for Duo46 including works by Daniel Adams, Neil Flory, Stacy Garrop, Pierre Jalbert, Anthony Joseph Lanman, Kristi McGarity, Joshua Penman, Paul Richards, Russell Sarre, and Richard Schaefer.

Their critically acclaimed debut recording, FM1,  features original works written during the 1950s by European composers Bruno Bartolozzi, Waldemar Bloch, Siegfried Behrend, Albert Reiter, Jeno Takacs, and jan Truhlar.  This CD is the first in a series of recordings that will document hundreds of compositions for guitar and violin written in the 20th-Century.
In addition to promoting violin and guitar music, Duo46 is actively expanding chamber music literature with guitar by regularly creating trios with friends around the globe.

In 2000, The None Trio (Duo46 and violist Peter Sulski) actively commissioned works by many composers including Rafael Hernandez, Martin Kennedy, Joe Pehrson, and Richard Schaefer.  In 2003, Duo46 will continue this trio with violist Görkem Çalgan.

In 2002, The Strung Out Trio (Duo46 and pianist Nathanael May) set forth an active commissioning project to enrich, promote and perpetuate this combination. A recording is scheduled Summer 2003 to feature new works written for them by Scott Brickman, Adrian Childs, Carson Cooman, Ed Mascari, Paul Richards, Justin Rubin, and Richard P. Schaefer.
Duo46 is now in residence at the Eastern Mediterranean University on the island of Cyprus. This multi-cultural university has a student body of over 14,000 representing over 65 countries.
