Interlochen Center for the Arts, long known as the premier training
ground for young classical musicians, is holding it's inaugural adult
education Guitar Institute this summer from Aug 24-27, 2006.
The Guitar Institute is dedicated to providing a strong classical
guitar program. The concerts and classes will include classical, jazz,
flamenco, world music, and acoustic alternative artists and
instructors.
There will be lecture demonstrations on classical guitar composer /
performers and on classical guitar maintenance. In addition there will
be two sessions of demonstrations of the features of fine handmade
classical guitars, in which the guitars will be played to show the
effect of these construction features on the sound of the instruments.
All levels are welcome. Alex de Grassi, William Kanengiser, Bruce Dunlap, John Wunsch, Armin Kelly (Guitars International), Dan Kelchak (Interlochen Guitars), Lee Dyament, Emre Yilmaz, Brad DeRoche, and Gohar Vardanyan will be the featured performers, faculty and master class faculty at this festival. John Stropes will be presenting a
retrospective on Interlochen alumnus Michael Hedges along with a
workshop on Michael's techniques and music, as well as the techniques
and music of other groundbreaking contemporary acoustic guitarists,
including percussive use of the guitar and "two hand on the neck"
approaches to playing guitar.
Travel north to the beauty of Interlochen's
campus and become a part of every guitar aficionado's goal, a world of
beautiful music, improving skills, and new guitar comrades. For more
