Guitarras de Baile is the third volume by guitarists Edgar Cruz and
Ruben Romero in a series they call Greatest Hits of Latin Guitar.
Their
first two CDs were recorded with just two guitars but this new edition
adds percussion (Joseph Martinez) and bass (Edgar) and gives the
project more of a dance feel. Songs include...Mambo Jambo, Begin the
Beguine, Guantanamera, Copacabana, Frenesi, Estrellita, Piel Canela,
Entre Dos Aguas, Quizas, Quizas, Quizas, three originals...Samba de
Familia (Cruz), Ruben’s Rhumba and Cancion del Novidades (Romero). Edgar Cruz says, “These are songs both Ruben and I grew up listening to. It was are
pleasure to add some southwest flair to these selections.” Review from a fan: "The guitar playing is fabulous and I am going to
have to rearrange Quizas, Quizas, Quizas as my version sounds pretty
lame anymore. I mean when Otmar Liebert came out I thought his idea of
fusing flamenco with rhumbas and new age nuances was pretty good, but
to me this knocks him and Luna Negra right out of the water. The only
song by Barry Manilow I've ever liked was that Chopin knock off he did
"Could it be Magic", but you all even make Barry Manilow sound good
with Copacabana." - A.C. (Pensacola, FL) About Edgar Cruz EDGAR CRUZ has been named Oklahoma’s Best Performing Artist / Acoustic Guitarist three years in a row and has received numerous civic acknowledgments for his contributions to various charitable events. He has recently begun performing with orchestras, choirs and various musicians. Each year he performs over 200 concerts and has played throughout America, Europe and South America. He has been a headliner at The Chet Atkins Festival in Nashville, TN since 1995 and is a strong icon at most festivals in OK including Sunfest, Festival of the Arts, Paseo Festival, Global Oklahoma and more. Those who have witnessed Cruz’s performance immediately become entranced at the precision, speed and complexity with which his fingers strike the strings of his guitar to create a symphony of sound unusual to just one instrument. Bohemian Rhapsody, The William Tell Overture, Malagueña, In the Mood and MacArthur Park are just a few examples.
